Position Purpose:
The primary focus of the Electrical Sales Engineer is on inside sales of switchgear and control panel projects. This role serves as a crucial part of our small but dynamic sales & marketing team located at our Headquarters in Lafayette, Indiana. The ideal candidate will be pivotal in promoting, marketing, and ensuring the accurate estimation and management of 208V-38kV switchgear projects. A commitment to precision, adaptability to company-defined procedures, and a deep understanding of electrical systems are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimation & Quotation: Thoroughly review customer documentation to formulate precise time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.
- Client Needs Assessment: Engage with clients to discern their requirements and propose tailored solutions.
- Sales & Marketing Strategy: Spearhead sales initiatives targeting industry experts, contractors, distributors, and end-users.
- Collaborative Engagements: Work in tandem with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to craft compelling quotations and contract proposals.
- Standards Adherence: Maintain a keen understanding of evolving industry and company standards.
- Product Mastery: Acquire in-depth knowledge of the company’s product offerings, identifying market gaps and potential applications.
- Industry Acumen: Remain abreast of industry trends, innovations, and regulatory changes.
- Project Transition: Collaborate efficiently with project managers post-estimation to ensure seamless project initiation.
- Perform routine administrative duties pertinent to Sales & Marketing objectives and tasks.
Desired Skills:
- A minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience in sales, specifically within the electrical engineering or switchgear industry.
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical systems and components.
- Familiarity with switchgear, switchboards, and their applications in distributed generation systems.
- Analytical prowess and superior problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in multi-tasking and adhering to strict deadlines.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation aptitude.
- Prior experience in electrical estimation and contractor project quoting.
- Detail-oriented mindset.
- Commitment & Drive: Possess a “can-do” attitude with a strong commitment to ensuring customer-required dates are met. The candidate should demonstrate a proactive approach and, when faced with pressing deadlines, should be willing to see tasks through to completion, even if it means extending their workday.
- Leadership acumen within the role and unwavering dedication to the organization.
- Familiarity with industry standards: NEC, ANSI, UL, NFPA, IBC, etc.
- Proficient in the Windows Operating environment with strong skills in Windows-based applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PDF, and AutoCAD 2D (knowledge of 3D SolidWorks is beneficial).
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5-7 years in the electrical power systems sector quoting for genset dealers, contractors, distributors, EPCs, representatives, etc.
- Degree in Power Systems/Electrical Engineering or equivalent trades training/experience.
- Formal training in Sales, Marketing, Business, or other STEM fields is advantageous, provided they possess relevant experience in Electrical Equipment and Power Systems.
