Position Purpose:
We are actively seeking an experienced Switchgear Design Engineer to join our team of Electrical Engineering Professionals located at our Lafayette, Indiana facility. The purpose of hiring a Switchgear Design Engineer is to have an individual who is an integral part of the company in the creation and development of Power Distribution systems. Candidates to be a Switchgear Design Engineer at APT can expect to be involved in:
- Conceptual Power Systems design
- Low & Medium Voltage Switchgear & components design
- Making internal equipment design decisions as it relates to enclosures, bus, circuit breaker, and component placement
- Creation of AC and DC schematics, components layout, wiring diagrams, and one-line diagrams for project submittals, construction plans, and as-builts
- Electric power metering and protective relaying
- HMI, equipment monitoring, and SCADA screen development
- Programming of PLCs
- Website Content Development
- Equipment field start-up
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Interpret customer specifications, drawings and have in-depth customer interaction to meet customer requirements
- Ability to multitask multiple project requirements and work with the engineering team to keep track of and meet project milestones
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- The ability to demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with Electrical Engineering fundamentals for 3 phase Wye & Delta power system applications from 208V – 38,000VAC
- Design & AutoCAD modeling of switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, industrial control panels including:
- Switchgear Layout Drawings
- AC & DC Schematic Creation
- Shop Construction Drawing Creation
- Knowledge of circuit breakers, power generation & distribution systems, switchgear, low & medium voltage equipment/insulation systems, generator paralleling, automatic source transfer, motor control, and PLC/HMI/SCADA programming
- Have a detailed understanding of applicable NEC, ANSI, UL, etc. standards.
- Proficient in the use of Windows-based applications including but not limited to:
- Microsoft Office Applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
- Adobe Reader
- AutoCAD
- Ability to travel as necessary and handle other duties as required
Education & Qualifications:
- 5 – 10 years of experience in the power system engineering field
- Minimum of 5 years of switchgear/switchboard/panelboard/industrial control panel drawing creation and AC/DC schematic creation
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology with an interest or specialization in Power Systems or equivalent work experience and skill development required
